Hurricane Helene remains the worst natural disaster to ever hit the eastern United States.
A rudimentary roadside distribution center at the end of my street has blossomed into a fiscally-sponsored nonprofit called WNC Moms. I am proud to be working to serve my community as recovery continues here in Henderson County, NC.
WNC Moms is passionately committed to connecting local residents with dedicated volunteers and essential resources. Our goal is to help survivors feel safe, supported, and more normal in their homes and daily lives. Through these thoughtful efforts, “The Moms” strive to provide a strong sense of community and well-being to all those we serve, ensuring that no one feels alone in their struggles.
WNC Moms can now accept donations directly and provide 501(c)3 receipts. All funds are used to support residents in WNC with immediate needs.

The Propane and Power Relief Fund
This certified 501(c)3 organization regularly delivers propane, hoses, adaptors, and other accessories as well as generators, food, and supplies all across WNC. Kelly Tidwell and his team have supported us with tens of thousands of pounds of propane, at no charge, and need our support. Tax receipts are available.
We started as a small group of resilient women with ties to both Western NC and Eastern Carolina. While facing the challenges brought by Hurricane Helene, we were drawn together to provide aid, comfort, and support to the mountains we cherish. We plan to continue this important work together; we recognize that the road to recovery will be long, but we are committed to making a positive impact in our communities—we are determined to see it through. Karen Jenkins started this group immediately following Helene and has been a tremendous partner to us, delivering all types of supplies, seasoned firewood, and mental health support across Western NC.
NECHAMA – Jewish Response to Disaster, is the only Jewish organization to offer sustained direct services in the US following the onset of a hurricane, tornado, flood, or other natural disaster.
Nechama means “to comfort” in Hebrew - and that’s just what this team has been bringing to our area. We have paired with Nechama on a number of projects to complete mud and debris removal from inside homes, make repairs, and bring stability to families.
